Classic Essay

It's a quick and easy read that should be required reading for all HS students. Written long ago, it's as though Bastiat is speaking today to our own issues - the problem of special interests and using the government to engage in "legalized plunder" as he called it. Can't recommend it highly enough!

I’ve given away numerous copies I had a personal copy with notes from Larry Reeds lecturers….Donna Hearnes conferences. I may have given that copy away inadvertently. Larry Reed was at Lindenwood, off campus to lecture on how important character, the economy, is to society. I can’t find my notes. Ask him to send me key points to that lecturer he gave a couple of years ago

Have not received it

It was delivered to a parcel locker. No idea where that is. We don’t have parcel lockers in my neighborhood. I can’t get through to a person via usps 800# or at any of the 3 locations close to me. I am disabled and I’d like it delivered to my door like any other package.

This book includes 'I, Pencil' which I HIGHLY recommend. One thing that sets Lawrence Reed apart from other liberty-minded individuals is that he writes less from an economics and praxeology perspective, and more about things the average person enjoys. In this book, he talks about what makes good character, and about individual responsibility. A quick, easy read.

Are We Good Enough for Liberty?
Character matters!

This book put concisely the BIG issue that we currently face in the world. To often we are looking for the best candidate for the job or political office. We overlook or don't care to look at personal character of the people applying for the position. We look for the person with the outstanding skills. After we have made our choice and put the person with exceptional skills in place. We realize that the person we picked has no character. Now this person without character is using thous exceptional skills to undermind their boss or the voters. They now use the position they have been put into with no moral compass. Because they have little character that they stand on, they can change from being for one thing (the reason you picked, or hired them) to being against it, or you overnight. The only thing that matters to them, is themself, and their personal ends justify their means. Whom ever they lie to, cheat or steel from is ok to them, if they win! This will open your eyes to how much character really matters and how skills can be taught to thous who have good character. And if we don't look at character, their skills can destroy us.
Great book!

Comrade Jesus?

This book may be a little difficult for those with liberal leanings as it is very straight-forward and logical, but that is just how truth is. To claim Jesus's teachings fit a philosophy of coercion and domination of others is an egregious act of philosophical appropriation. This book addresses many common misconceptions of Jesus's teachings and how they relate to our current political/cultural insanity.

Was Jesus a Socialist?
Was Jesus a Socialist?
A careful handling of scripture and public policy

As someone who has worked in business while also being a member of the church, I appreciate Larry Reed's careful handling of Jesus' teachings alongside a discussion of economic policy and government. This book does a great job of bringing these two things together in an even-handed and intelligent way. It is rare to find a book and an author that can help expand one's knowledge of the spiritual while also educating on the economic. Well done!
